I have a Montague folding bike (www.montaguebikes.com) and I’ve been commuting with it in Philly for almost two years. I ride part of the way to work (about 3 miles), then I fold it and take it on the train. When I get off the train it’s only 1 more mile to my office. The great thing about my Montague bike is that it’s full-size when unfolded, but it has the perks of a folding bike for public transit and storage.
